Anna Miller's History of GD Collection
This collection is meant to show the way early war propaganda posters influenced the anti-war creations later on, and how that continues to influence the way we look at design. I was inspired by things like “Uncle Sam” and “Rosie the Riveter", who were used to represent patriotism early on and encourage people to either join the fight or work to keep the country going while the men were away. Rosie the Riveter was and still is used as a symbol of feminism and the strength of women, showing how such old designs still influence what people create. Alongside these influential images are the anti-war drawings that sprouted up later on, particularly during the Vietnam war, when people realized war only hurt them, not helped. The use of the phrase “Make (blank), Not war” was used a lot, alongside “War is (blank)” to rally against wars. I am personally inspired by the works created by people during the Vietnam war, since they are some of the more thought provoking pieces to me.
