This advertisement poster for Yale School of Architecture by Michael Bierut is simplistic, but still possesses an element that draws attraction. It was created in 2002. It was also contributed to by Kerrie Powell.
This poster is interesting with its use of sideways text and bold letters in contrast to light ones. It contains the lecture names and times written both very large and small, requiring you to look closely to understand the information being presented. This poster is completely black and white, but the contrast present is strong, effectively catching the eye.
Michael Bierut is a graphic designer, teacher, and design critic who studied at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. He has been in partnership with his design firm, Pentagram, since 1990.
This poster forces us to come close and tilt our head, both of which take time. Therefore, this poster keeps our attention for longer than the average one might. It plays into the new art era of the 2000s by slightly pushing the modern and experimental boundary.
