Vogue Magazine Cover 1939
Created by Horst P Horst on April 1st, 1939, featuring Muriel Maxwell. Horst P Horst was a photographer for Vogue and worked on many color covers. Muriel Maxwell was his favorite model to take photographs for the Vogue covers. He also took pictures of artists, writers and presidents.
Horst quickly adapted to the new technology and became one of the first to perfect the new color technique of the 1930's, and created 90 Vogue covers and pages in color. From 1939 to 1942, Horst produced 34 American Vogue covers which mostly had red, white and blue color schemes. This was to reflect the patriotic sentiment growth in the US during the world war.
