Kala

Kala is the second album to be released by British Artist M.I.A. Released on August 8, 2007, by XL Recordings, the album's songs focus on political themes, like illegal immigration and poverty.

The designer behind this cover was Steve Loveridge. The album is a clear fusion of a variety of cultures that M.I.A traveled through the album's recordings. It also features a blend of graphic design movements such as Swiss Modernism with its grid-based composition, and postmodernism digital integration and overlapping. The colors are bold, representing the postmodernism movement, but also countries like Africa with their colors. In all, this album showcases a defiant attitude toward traditional Western ideas on what a cover album should be with bold, saturated colors and deliberate but chaotic placement and addition of patterns/shapes and photography. It also aids in the album's political messages with the words, Fight On circling M.I.A's main head.
