Horizonte magazine was published in Mexico between 1926 and 1927 and served as striking visual manifestos. Estridentismo or Stridentism was the name given to this movement that began after 1921. Post-Mexican Revolutionary period, these covers embodied the Mexican avant-garde with artwork and literature related to political and social issues. This cover portrays a barefoot man in white carrying a torch and a white banner strapped to his chest. The background consists of abstracted mountains and smoke/clouds. The bold blue geometric typography references back to modernist design. With the torch as a symbol of enlightenment or resistance, the figure suggested leaving the past behind and into a new future.
