Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back Poster

When looking at where graphic design has been used historically, few things are quite as memorable and iconic as a movie poster. As a designed work, a movie poster accomplishes many goals, such as promotion, acting as merchandise, and giving a film visual identity. This poster for Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back is a great example of a designed work made with intention. Bright and blue, the color choices of this poster contrast the title and imagery well. Where blue may inspire hope and strength, the imposing silhouette of Darth Vader looms overhead, with stormtroopers below firing their blasters at the viewer. Previously our protagonists would take up most of the poster, but for this one, the antagonists dominate the space, reflecting the low point our characters will find themselves in. As prominent as this imagery is, it is balanced-out by a large area of text at the bottom of the poster, listing the title and other pieces of key information.
