Annual Persian Poetry Day

1

Inspired by the color, motifs, and spirit of Iranian Siyah Mashq—practice sheets densely covered with calligraphy—this poster was designed to honor Iranian poetry. The idea for this piece came from the observation that, just as poetry weaves new and pleasing meanings through the combination of words, Persian writing forms words by connecting individual letters. A distinctive feature of Persian script is that the shape of the letters transforms depending on which letter they are attached to, unlike English where letters remain separate. This constant metamorphosis mirrors the evolution seen in modern Persian poetry, which marked a major shift in the history of Iranian literature, introducing a fresh, boundary-free perspective. Likewise, Siyah Mashq itself redefined aesthetic values in the tradition of calligraphy.
