The HANAE MORI is a fashion advertisement poster designed by Ikko Tanaka in 1977. The poster shows a big black butterfly with colored geometric shapes and lines on the wings. The bold shape and colors make the butterfly clearly stand out.
This poster was designed for Hanae Mori, a Japanese fashion designer also known as “Madame butterfly." The large butterfly shape represents Mori's signature motif symbolizing transformation and elegance. Mori would go on and publish this work herself to advertise one of her own fashion shows for the Hanae Mori fashion house.
