Idea of a picture postcard came from the Meiji era (1868-1912) during Japans occupation of Taiwan and Korea. This particular set of postcards are thought to be created during the early stages of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Unlike a book or magazine, this song has taken the form of a picture postcard. These songs were to show the role of war horses in the battlefield and the relationship they have with the soldiers. The composer Shoichi Shinjo is not well known, but was later discovered that he not only composed military songs, but other school songs too.
