The poster was made for a concert/film showing related to Towards the Sea (“Sea” / “Umi e”) by Tōru Takemitsu. Towards the Sea is a musical work by Takemitsu composed in 1981, with different versions.
Ikko Tanaka’s poster functions as a visual translation/echo of the musical themes: sea, resonance, sound, and cycles of motion. It provides a visual atmosphere to complement the auditory. The golden wave visually points to water; circles might evoke sun, moon, bubbles, or sound waves.
