MUJI New Year Red Sea Bream

9

This New Year's graphic was designed for MUJI (無印良品),  a Japanese lifestyle brand known for its minimalist aesthetic. It features a red sea bream (tai), a fish that symbolizes good fortune and celebration in Japanese culture. The greeting displayed in Japanese: どうぞ、福いっぱいの新年を translates to: Wishing you a New Year full of happiness and good fortune.  The overall visual combines traditional symbolism and minimalism, which fits perfectly with MUJI's style.

This work was designed by Norito Shinmura, born in 1960, a Japanese art director and graphic designer who has created work for brands like MUJI and Shiseido. He is the founder of Shinmura Design Office (garden inc.) and a member of Japan Graphic Designers Association (JAGDA). Kosuke Niwano, born in 1982, a Japanese  graphic designer who joined Shinmura's studio in 2005 and is also a JAGDA member.

This New Year's graphic is featured in a MUJI catalog as promotional design.
