Traditional Japanese Drama, ‘Noh’

10

This 1969 poster by Tadanori Yokoo promotes a series of four Noh dramas by a travelling troupe. The design uses psychedelic colors on a gold background, creating a striking contrast that merges traditional Japanese theater imagery with a modern, experimental aesthetic. Yokoo’s combination of hand-drawn illustration, bold color, and graphic composition transforms the poster into more than just an advertisement it becomes a visually engaging artwork. The poster’s impact was internationally recognized when it won an award at the Fifth International Poster Triennale in Warsaw.
