This rare first Japanese printing of the first English edition of The Sound of Waves was published by Charles E. Tuttle Company in Tokyo in 1956 and bears a signed presentation inscription from Yukio Mishima to Charles Terry, a fellow expatriate and translator. The book includes illustrations by Yoshinori Kinoshita and retains its original pictorial wrappers, modestly worn with a surviving ¥125 price sticker.
