Kazumasa Nagai was a graphic design artist who became well known because of the care and dedication he put into his designs to ensure that they not only looked visually stunning but also improved the advertising culture by aiming to appeal to people's "souls". Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1929, he studied at Tokyo National University of Arts, co-founded the Nippon Design Center and created thousands of graphic design posters over the course of his life. His artworks are exhibited in museums around the world and people see the logos he created everyday such as the Japan Railways and UFJ logos.
"Identity" is a more subtle artwork compared to the vibrant colors and use of animals in other works. It comprises mainly of shades of brown and diagonal lines that break the print into five different sections. Towards the bottom we see a black void containing two ovals: the red oval with a series of lines that loops you into the center while blue oval is smaller and lineless.
