World Map Room — English Edition of the Manga by Yuichi Yokoyama.

10

Published in English in 2013 by the now defunct Picturebox Inc, Yuichi Yokoyama's manga World Map Room is an expression of his self proclaimed  “Neo-Manga” aesthetic wherein Yokoyama expresses time and movement via lengthy travel scenes built up with a focus on unified line thickness, shape expression and an extensive use of bold onomatopoeia while the characters make their way towards the titular room.

The cover of World Map Room's English edition is built from two panels of the many drawn cityscapes contained within the work.  Atop the teal ink cityscape lies a 4x5 grid of semi-opaque yellow circles. In the bottom right hand corner a red rectangle containing both the work's title as well as the authors name in a sans-serif typeface is inscribed.

Yuichi Yokoyama was born in Miyazaki prefecture Japan in 1967. He currently works as a fine artist and mangaka based out of Kanagawa. His manga have been translated and released globally since the mid 2000s establishing his place in the underground manga scene and building up a cult following both domestically and abroad. Likewise, his fine artworks have built up their own reputation and can be seen as a part of several public collections housed by some of Japan's most prestigious art institutions such as the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), The National Museum of Modern Art (Tokyo) and the Kawasaki City Museum.
