Devil May Cry 1 Japanese Cover / デビル メイ クライ

This is the 2001 Japanese package design for the action-adventure and hack-and-slash game Devil May Cry. The package was designed by Kentaro Kuroyanagi and Masato Suzuki. Devil May Cry was developed and published by Capcom, and it follows the demon hunter Dante as he makes his way through a haunted mansion. You can see Dante is positioned directly in the center of the cover, which makes him the focal point of the packaging. The two doors on both sides of Dante create a sort of frame around him, while the red background strongly contrasts with his white hair. His gun, pointing diagonally toward the logo, creates a line through an otherwise vertical composition. The use of red, white, and black does a good job of giving the cover a dark and dramatic appearance that really matches the game's horror setting.
