The Martin Star

1

The Martin Star, a monthly publication by the aircraft and aerospace manufacturer Glenn L. Martin Company.

This issue is Vol III No 3, April 1944.

Graphic design served as a critical recruiting and communications tool in WWII. And the advertisement on the back cover was striking to me. It gives a different emotion from the Rosie the Riveter poster we are used to seeing. The many women who joined the factory workforce are pictured and mentioned throughout this publication. According to records, up to 40% of the Glenn L. Martin Company workforce was women. Martin ranked 14th among U.S. corporations in the value of wartime production contracts. My grandmother, Betty, is pictured on page 15.
