Logo for 日本遺産 (Japan Heritage)
This logo was announced in 2015, as the symbol for Japan Heritage 日本遺産. Beneath the hinomaru (the red circle representing the sun), the words "JAPAN HERITAGE" are rendered as a collection of fine lines. These lines coalesce to form a single "surface, or men 面," symbolizing how cultural heritage sites scattered across Japan are connected through stories, from individual "points" to "lines," and ultimately into a unified "surface." As the official cites says, this logo design encapsulates the core philosophy of Japan Heritage within a simple form.
Taku Sato 佐藤卓, the designer of this logo, is a graphic designer whose wide range of work includes package design and symbol marks, as well as serving as art director for the NHK Educational TV (Eテレ) program "Nihongo de Asobo にほんごであそぼ" and overall direction of "Design A デザインあ."
