The Avant garde movement had a major influence on Russian design during the early 1900s. During the 1920s and 1930s  brothers Vladimir and Georgii Stenberg produced a large body of work alongside other well-known artists and designers in Moscow.

Although the brothers worked in a variety of mediums and experimented with many styles, their posters advertising the newly flourishing Russian cinema and film scene are their most popular works. Through these recognizable designs, Vladimir and Georgii played a large role in shaping what design historians would later call the Russian Avant garde.
