“What is the cost for the hereditary sick?”

The image is used to illustrate the financial burden that disabled people had on the state. The goal of Nazi school was to create obedience and conformity. They did not want children to think for themselves or question authority. They used design in their textbooks and schools to enforce that type of mindset. The Nazi’s changed the source of education by implementing their own textbooks that had racist ideals. The Nazi party used their propaganda to tap into emotions and make a sense of conformity.

This example shows how they used design in education to enforce the ideals of their propaganda and influence the younger generation. The design attacks disabled people by invalidating their place in society because they cost too much compared to an able bodied individual. They use the difference to create a sense superiority for the able bodied children learning in the schools and later joining the cause. Their approach to education design was to make privileged groups feel more important and belittle disabled people instead of making society more equal.  This design is also inherently only accessible to the white German children that were in favor in Nazi Germany and learning in Nazi Schools. This image is from the Wiener Holocaust Library and was created by the Nazi Party in 1938.
