Knoll, Inc., founded in 1938 by Hans Knoll, became a beacon of modern design under Florence Knoll's visual design guidance. Florence Knoll played a large role in shaping the visual identity of the Knoll Company. She was able to infuse a Bauhaus style within corporate branding therefore impacting more than just furniture design. The idea and style of Bauhaus was applied to every aspect of the brand both from visual design standpoint and product design.
Florence Knoll introduced a strict architectural approach to design, ensuring that all visual elements the company produced reflected the brand’s modernist feel. Her work as a designer allowed her to become a leading figure in corporate visual branding, demonstrating that curated design principles can define a company’s image largely.
The Knoll logo, redesigned by Herbert Matter in 1947, featured a thin white letter “K”, incorporating cylindrical elements to enhance structural balance. This design, created through Florence Knoll's visual design ideals, reflected the Bauhaus principles of simplicity and clarity while creating a corporate logo.
