This book cover was created by the Mavo group that Gennifer Weisenfeld used for her book cover in 2002; the Mavo was founded by artists such as Murayama Tomoyoshi, Masami Yanase, Kamenosuke Ogata, Shuzo Oura, and Shinro Kadowaki. It shows how Mavo artists looked to transform Japanese art to the rise of industrialism. They used photos that conveyed the feeling of crisis and uncertainties that they were begging to characterize daily life.
