Description of the poster: “The poster was designed as an educational/inspirational poster to be distributed to schools, African-American organizations, and publications across the country. There are two sides to every issue just as there is no correct way to look at this poster. The mirrored figure and integrated copy reflect the fact that inequalities and prejudices are a product of man. We are simply a reflection of how we see and treat one another.”
My thoughts: I chose this poster because it visually represents the idea that justice and equality are reflections of how we perceive and treat one another. To me, the mirror figure seems like it symbolizes the concept that human beings are the same, and any division based on race or prejudice is a social construct. Additionally, there are scattered, hand-drawn texts, which adds a raw emotion to the design, making the message feel personal. Words like "justice," "peace," "brotherhood," and "equality" are embedded throughout, reinforcing the theme. Some words are faded, hinting at how societal messages about race and justice are often distorted or ignored. The upside-down and mirrored text further supports the idea that perspectives shape our understanding of justice.
