Syrian Arab Airlines Ticket (1969)

745

This Syrian Arab Airlines ticket from 1969 uses a monochromatic green color scheme with geometric shapes and also features both Arabic and English languages. The overall design is similar to the Swiss Style design movement happening in the west during the 50's and 60's.

The use of transparency as it is used here is extremely popular during this movement. The overlapping shapes create a darker green that matches the color of the type, creating a sense of balance and cohesiveness throughout the design. The use of geometric shapes also convey a sense of modernism when combined with the limited color palette.

The design of this ticket is featured in the article Preserving Syrian design history and graphics in the Arab world: Meet the Syrian Design Archive by Jynann Ong for ItsNiceThat.com. The article explains the thought behind the creation of the Syrian Graphic Design Archive, a digital collection founded by Kinda Ghannoum, Sally Alassafen, and Hala Al Afsaa to combat the lack of information and access to Syrian design.
