Doolittle is the second studio album by the American alternative rock band Pixies, released on April 17, 1989. The album cover was a collaboration between English graphic designer Vaughan Oliver and Welsh photographer Simon Larbalestier. After gaining access to the album’s lyrics, Oliver and Simon aimed to use dark and surreal imagery to visually represent the album’s themes.
The cover features a surreal image of a monkey with a halo, directly referencing one of the songs in this album named Monkey Gone to Heaven. It also includes the numbers 5, 6, and 7, which hold symbolic significance in the song’s lyrics. The overall design reflects the album’s themes of darkness, mystery, and death, skillfully combining religious imagery with unsettling abstract visuals.
