This is the cover of Design (Japan) magazine, volume 14, 1960, designed by Yusaku Kamekura.
Kamekura was born in 1915 and graduated from the Institute of New Architecture and Industrial Arts. In 1962, he began working as a freelance designer, picking up multiple jobs including the role for designing the cover of this volume of Design (Japan) magazine. He was among the most renowned artistic figures in post-World War II Japanese graphic design, so much so that he even received the nickname, “Boss.”
The cover of this magazine features a “trippy” design that emits very similar feelings to that of an optical illusion. The use of overlapping off-put lines creates an eye-catching ripple effect, initially being what drew my attention to this piece of media.
