Penguin Books 2003 Logo

30

The current logo for the publisher Penguin Books and its predecessors. Originally drawn by “an employee who happened to know how to sketch”, Edward Young in 1935, basing it on a penguin in a zoo. Several variants were made until 1949 where Jan Tschichold, a German designer, was invited by the company to redesign their books as well as their logo. Tschichold’s final design remained almost unchanged with it only being slimmed down by 15% in 2003 by Angus Hyland to fit on different spine sizes.
