This advertisement poster for Yale School of Architecture by Michael Bierut is simplistic, yet still catches the eye and draws attention. It was created in 2003.
This poster advertises current lectures taking place but in an interesting way. It features many large and bold Y's (for Yale) with the lecture names featured very small on the bottom. The giant “Y” is definitely what draws the most attention, even from far away. It's in completely black and white, but the contrast present is strong, effectively catching the eye.
Michael Bierut is a graphic designer, teacher, and design critic who studied at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. He has been in partnership with his design firm, Pentagram, since 1990.
This poster is quite simple but still interesting due to its somewhat unusual nature. The giant Y's compel us to find out what they're representing. This poster plays into the new art era of the 2000s by slightly pushing that modern and experimental boundary.
