Commercial Art by C.E. Wallace
Published in 1939, C.E. Wallace writes about different genres of Commercial Art, as well as “the essentials” of graphic design (which is positioned not as a whole field, but as an aspect of doing commercial art), how to draw in different ways, and the technical skills required for reproduction processes from silkscreen printing to using “Ben Day Tints.” The chapter on color prompts readers to mix paints and add their own swatches. The full book is available from the Internet Archive.
