Coalition was a magazine that began as a newspaper starting in 1986 and ending in 2019. This magazine not only brought to attention key points in the disability rights movements, but also highlighted disability representation in media and a variety of other columns including letters from readers and comics. Coalition became the forefront for the disability rights movement as it acted as a forum for people to discuss plans and ideas surrounding disability and legislation (disabledpeoplesarchive.com). The text at the bottom of this page seems to indicate a common goal of this movement: disabled peoples' rights to independent living.
The vibrant pink background in tandem with the variety of typefaces shown on this front page displays the movement toward postmodern design. This is furthered by the table of contents seemingly being plastered ontop of the rest of the pages elements. Layering is a key detail in much of postmodernist design. It breaks the mould, both idillic and literally, as the layout does not follow any grid system.
