Pink (1974)

‘Pink’ was an installation poster by Sheila de Bretteville in 1974. The American Institute of Graphic Arts invited Bretteville to contribute to their collection of designs based around color; to answer this prompt, she asked women of all ages to write down their thoughts about the color pink. The faint color and unique composition encouraged people to get close to the piece and read as a subtle design allusion reflecting the complex feminine experience. This poster serves as an example of the postmodernist practice of deriving form from content versus content from form.
