Greta Arabic Typeface

849

Greta Arabic is the counterpart to the font Greta Sans, the first Arabic type system of its scale. The creator of Greta Sans, Peter Bilak (along with Nikola Djurek), asked type designer Kristyan Sarkis, born in Beirut and based in Amsterdam, to create an Arabic counterpart, exploring the extremes in width and weight in Arabic rather than just designing an exact match to the Latin alphabet version.

At the time of development, compression and extension had not really been experimented with in Arabic type, as well as the concept of high and low contrast under the same type family. The image shown is a sketch for the main masters derived from the drawing of Greta Text Arabic.
