La Semana Año III N° 105, Cover of a Uruguayan weekly magazine

849

La Semana was a popular weekly magazine from Uruguay, circulating specifically in its capital, Montevideo. The periodical covered art, current affairs, literature, and more, using a wide range of typefaces and interesting illustrations throughout that reference other visual styles of the time like Art Nouveau and magazines from Germany.

This issue features a young woman on the cover pulling on a red knit hat which assumingly shows her support of the Colorado political party of Uruguay, or the Red Party. This was the liberal party and promoted the rights of workers and women. A bright sun is shown rising behind her, symbolizing hope for a new day.
