Cherokee Braille
This system was created by the Commonwealth Braille and Talking Book Cooperative in an effort to benefit the blind, vision impaired, and print disabled of the Commonwealth (nfb.org). For the Cherokee section specifically they worked in tandem with fluent Cherokee speakers in the Cherokee Language Program (tulalipnews.com). To create the braille syllabary these groups utilized Cherokee print symbols, Cherokee computer keyboard, and in some necessary cases similar sounds in the English alphabet (nfb.org).
The adaptationof the Cherokee syllabary is a fairly new project. A reflection of the world becoming more accessible to the visually impaired in modernity. The cooperative is helping those who cannot read traditional text to read in their native language.
