nkCherokee tyepface | Neil Kandalgaonkar
nkCherokee is a font developed to digitize the Cherokee syllabary while aligning with legibility and accessibility standards. It was created by Native American type specialist Neil Kandalgaonkar. He took hundreds of samples of Cherokee writings and analyzed the lettering to properly translate the nuances of the type into a digital format. He utilized Sequoyah's (designer of the Cherokee Syllabary) original cursive version of the lettering to delineate between difficult characters. This typeface is an example of preserving design history, making it accesible for future generations.
