50th Cherokee National Holiday program

849

This is the cover of program for the Cherokee National Holiday Celebration. The program details events for the weekend, key donors, and volunteers. It is celebrated in Tahlequah, Oklahoma each year during Labor Day weekend. The holiday commemorates the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Nation Constitution. It also allows them to celebrate their shared history and heritage, reaffirming their sovereignty as a nation.

This design is unique from the other programs because it features a heavy illustration and use of typography in the design. In the middle there is a family surrounded by their ancestors that are no longer with them. In the back, there are various letters of the Cherokee Syllabary shown at various sizes and readability. The older program covers do not feature any letters from the syllabary. This shows how knowledge and appreciation of the syllabary has increased overtime, possibly in correlation to the development of new typefaces in the syllabary. The syllabary being featured heavily on  a work that will be widespread across the nation also helps to increase knowledge and awareness of the syllabary.
