Portruding Patterns by Lin Tianmiao

849

Portruding Patterns  is an exhibition of textile works by the artist Lin Tianmiao, featuring around 120 of the 2,000 words pertaining to womanhood that she had collected over six years. Whether they be expressions of appreciation or derogatory insults, these words reflect the biases, stereotypes, and social roles placed on women that have been reinforced by everyday language around the world. Lin’s work often centers on the female body, domesticity, and labor, themes that are visualized through traditionally “feminine” materials like thread and cloth. Her integration of text, texture, and form blurs the line between art and communication, and can be viewed as part of a larger shift where design moved from utilitarian communication to expressive, conceptual exploration.
