The Results of the First Five-Year Plan
Constructivism design was made to reflect modern industrial societies and urban spaces, specifically started in Soviet areas. The movement rejected decorative and ornamented styles in favor of the industrial assemblage of materials and imagery.
This photomontage, designed by Varvara Stepanova, was dedicated to the success of the ‘First Five-Year Plan’ initiative started by Stalin in 1928, which planted the USSR as a leading industrial power. This piece by Stepanova is using propaganda design tools, devices, and techniques since the pieces creation was created under the strict supervision of Party ideology. This photomontage is an ideological imagining of the success that the plan had brought.
