First appearing in Dirty Dishes in August 1930 in Max Fleischer's Talkertoon series, there are many women who inspired this character, from Clara Bow and Helen Kane.  Betty Boop made her first appearance in the ten cartoons as a supporting role , described as a flapper girl with more heart than brains. Betty Boop was so popular she became a star of the Talkartoons by 1932 and given her own  show series that same year in Stopping the Show. From that point on, she was crowned and nicknamed as "The Queen of the Animated Screen". The series would go on to be very popular throughout the 1930s.

During the 1920s after WW1, many younger generations were disillusioned and tried to distance themselves from the traditional values of their parents, especially women. Gone with the traditional fashion of hiding skin, womens in the 1920’s wore a more flashy, suggestive, skin showing clothes and short, bob hair that represented their liberated, carefree lifestyle. Women who wore these fashions were called “Flapper girls.” Betty Boop represented the characteristics of the 1920’s flapper girls as the character's image, from her dress, dance style and playful, rebellious spirit draws many inspiration to perfectly embody the new modern era.
