Hardcover and dust jacket of Reader's Digest North American Wildlife.

1

This hardcover book and dust sleeve of a Reader's Digest guide to North American WIldlife consists of a collage of bold colored drawings of animals and plants of the regions.

The hardcover case stamping was done by Arno Jakobson. The front cover and spine are attributed to Darrell K. Sweet. The illustration on the back cover from top to bottom are attributed to Chuck Ripper, John D. Dawson, Darrell K. Sweet, John D. Dawson, and Dorothea Barlowe.

The book was originally published in 1982, and this copy is the ninth printing from September of 1986.

The dimensions of the hardcover are 6.25 x 9.50 X 1.25 inches, and the dust jacket is 20.5 x 9.5 inches.

The dust jacket is made of a glossy paper and appears to have been phototypeset, with illustrations added using CMYK halftone lithography. The hardcover is made of thick cardboard covered with a light green fabric and a darker green paper indented with a leather texture. The gold detailing was then added via case stamping.

The book was edited in Pleasantville, N.Y. and Montreal, Canada, and printed in the United States of America.

This cover is an excellent example of what the higher quality end of colored prints looked like in the late 1980s, as well as when and how they were used compared to the lower-resolution halftone illustrations within the book.
