Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do

1

This is a book with a great message to share that still applies today. The bold red and red pages are what drew me in initially, and then I found out what it is actually about. This cover is the old one compared to the one that is currently being published, but I like it way better than the newer one. It attracts you with its bold typography and its bright red colors, especially on the pages. For me, though, the added benefit of it just looking worn and looking like it's been worked just adds to the aesthetic and then complements the message it is trying to send. I do think it came with a little worn effect to it, but you can't tell with this book in particular because of the wear of constant use.

The book was released on February 12, 1974. Working is a compelling, fascinating look at jobs and the people who do them. Consisting of over one hundred interviews conducted with everyone from gravediggers to studio heads, this book provides a moving snapshot of people’s feelings about their working lives, as well as a timeless look at how work fits into American life. It gives a perspective of working people of the time, and now still gives a view into all the different kinds of working people. But now definitely gives a good look at the period with feelings that still hold up today.
