Woman’s World
Myron Levytsky, the painter, illustrator, writer, and graphic artist was one of the most prominent Ukrainian artists to work outside of Ukraine. After emigrating to Canada in 1949, he designed and illustrated over 300 books, magazines, and bookplates, developing a distinctive type of lettering and graphic style. Levytsky designed numerous covers for Woman’s World, a women's magazine created by the Organization of Women in Canada. The covers featured both Ukrainian and English text, uniting women of the Ukrainian Canadian Community and promoting Ukrainian culture. Taking inspiration from Ukrainian art deco from the 1910s and the 1920s, Levytsky’s lettering and graphics created a balance between tradition and innovation. His cover designs often included stylized plant motifs and recurring compositions, yet his executions remained unique.
