Untitled (You are seduced)
Incredibly influential to feminist art and design as a whole, Barbara Kruger was playing with concepts of cyberfeminism a decade before the actual creation of the term. Kruger’s use of found photos paired with text would later be emulated by many artists and designers operating under the cyberfeminist label. This piece contains the image of two gloves, one of rubber or fabric and one leather, “holding hands” framed by the text “You are seduced by the sex appeal of the inorganic”. Kruger’s work explores themes of materiality and sexuality, and the former’s disrupting of the binaries of the latter.
