Fresh Kill Movie Poster

7

Colorful, bizarre, and absolutely ‘90s: this poster, designer unknown, exudes the qualities of the film it was made for. Directed by artist Shu Lea Cheang, who falls prominently under the cyberfeminist label, and written by Jessica Hagedorn, Fresh Kill was a part-hacker comedy, part-eco-apocalypse piece following two lesbian parents in New York City. The film’s poster shows the lead couple, Shareen and Claire, among a landscape of radioactive fish and garbage from the Fresh Kills landfill. This version also layers the phrases “don't kiss the fish”, “kill your television”, and “hack the code”. Like other cyberfeminist works, the poster uses plenty of collaging, but with a distinct early Photoshop flair.
