Yusaku Kamekura, born in 1915, is one of the most important designers in modern Japanese graphic design.

Tokyo 1964 is one of the posters designed by Japanese graphic designer Yusaku Kamekura for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. This poster was designed in 1962. The picture is very simple, mainly composed of a huge red circle, Olympic rings and the words TOKYO 1964. The red circle is easily reminiscent of the sun in the Japanese flag, so this design shows both Japan's national image and the internationality of the Olympic Games.

This poster does not use complicated decorations, but conveys information through simple geometric figures and clear words. The red circle becomes the visual center of the whole picture, making the poster easy to recognize even from a distance. This simple and direct design reflects the important characteristics of Japan's post-war modern graphic design.

This work is very important to the history of Japanese graphic design because it combines the visual elements of traditional Japanese culture with the modern international design language.
