Typographical details in Twin Peaks

A selection of typography in the set design of Twin Peaks (1990-1991)

Whilst film and TV titles and end credits get a moderate amount of attention in graphic design research and discourse,  typography and graphic design that is either found or constructed within the mise en scene is frequently overlooked. This is design that communicates in its most raw form; it can carry a plot, give a sense of place and time, it can provide punchlines, and can reveal more than words can.

Images sourced from Type/film, an archive that celebrates the typographic diversity that is found within the living, breathing scenes of film.

Directed by David Lynch
Written by Mark Frost
Production design by Richard Hoover, Patricia Norris
Set decoration by Kerry Oaksmith, Brian Kasch, Leslie Morales
