This is the book cover of Japanese author, 角野栄子(Eiko Kadono)’s novel Kiki’s Delivery Service (魔女の宅急便), which is the story that Ghibli's same name animation adapted from. This book cover is designed by Japanese illustrator 林明子 (Hayashi Akiko), who made her debut as a picture book author in 1984 with Hajimete no Kyanpu (First Camp).
The cover’s black and white illustration presents the novel’s protagonist, Kiki, a young witch dressed in her iconic black dress, flying on her broomstick, beside is her companion, a black cat called Jiji.
On the upper left corner of the book cover, the book title, author’s name, and illustrator’s name are printed in a readiable and clear Mincho typeface.
